Grid Down LLC

Privacy policy

Effective September 20, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Grid Down LLC (“Grid Down,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information in connection with Gravity Books (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

This Policy is designed to be as protective of Grid Down LLC as applicable law allows. Nothing in it requires us to collect less data than we reasonably need to operate the Service, and nothing creates rights beyond those required by law.

1. Who is responsible

Grid Down LLC is the controller of personal information processed through Gravity Books. Questions: info@griddown.com.

2. Information we collect

We may collect:

  • Account data. Email address and authentication credentials handled by our login provider (currently Google Firebase Authentication). We do not store your password in our own database.
  • Library data. Book titles, authors, ISBNs, formats, categories, ratings you save, descriptions, cover images you upload, and related metadata in your shelf.
  • Import media. Photos of bookshelves, screenshots, and screen recordings you choose to upload so the Service can read titles. These files are processed to extract book information. We do not use them to build a public photo library of your home.
  • Catalog lookups. Search queries and book identifiers sent to third-party catalogs (including Open Library, Google Books, and the Internet Archive) to match titles, covers, ratings, and descriptions.
  • Device and usage data. Approximate device type, browser, language, referring URL, timestamps, and coarse analytics events.
  • Local storage. Copies of your library, preferences, and cover images on your device (including localStorage, IndexedDB, and caches) so the app can work offline.

3. How we use information

We use information solely to:

  • create and authenticate your account;
  • store, sync, and display your library;
  • identify books from photos, video, screenshots, and CSV files you submit;
  • fetch covers, ratings, and descriptions from catalogs;
  • improve reliability, fight abuse, and debug failures;
  • measure aggregate use of the Service (including via Google Analytics);
  • comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your library or import media to train public advertising profiles. We do not rent your email list.

4. AI and catalog processing

If you use camera, screenshot, or video import, images or frames are sent to an AI vision provider (currently xAI) so titles and authors can be read. Those providers process the media as our processors. Catalog requests are sent to Open Library, Google, and the Internet Archive. We do not control those services’ own logging or retention. Do not upload images you are not allowed to share with those processors.

5. Sharing

We share information only:

  • with infrastructure and processors that host accounts, databases, analytics, AI, and catalogs;
  • if required by law, legal process, or to protect Grid Down LLC, users, or the public;
  • in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy;
  • with your direction (for example, a backup file you download and share yourself).

Processors may include Google LLC (Firebase, Google Analytics, Google Books), xAI, the Internet Archive, and Open Library / Internet Archive-related catalog hosts. Their privacy terms apply to their processing.

6. Retention

We keep account and library data until you delete items or the account, or until we reasonably no longer need the data to operate the Service or meet legal duties. Import media is processed to complete your request and is not kept as a permanent photo/video archive. Device caches remain until you clear site data. Backups you download are your responsibility.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You use the Service at your own risk. You are responsible for your password and for any activity on your account.

8. Your choices

  • edit or delete books in the app;
  • download a backup from the menu;
  • sign out on a device;
  • clear browser/PWA storage;
  • email info@griddown.com to request access, correction, or deletion of account data we control, subject to law.

We may refuse requests that are unfounded, excessive, or would prevent us from operating, securing, or defending the Service, except where law requires otherwise.

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have, we will delete it. Parents or guardians should contact us immediately.

10. International transfers

We may process information in the United States and other countries. Those places may have different data protection laws than your home. By using the Service you understand your information may be transferred to those jurisdictions.

11. Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics and similar technologies, plus essential cookies/local storage for login, preferences, and offline use. You can block cookies in your browser; the Service may not function fully.

12. Do not sell / targeted ads

We do not sell personal information as that term is commonly understood, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If a future feature would change that, we will update this Policy and provide any required opt-out.

13. Changes

We may change this Policy at any time. The “Effective” date above will change. Continued use after a change is acceptance. If you do not agree, stop using the Service and delete your account data.

14. No extra duties

This Policy is a statement of our practices, not a warranty, not a service-level agreement, and not a grant of extra contractual rights except where law forbids that limitation. Our Terms of Service control if there is a conflict about your use of the Service.
